TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka Center for Peace and Justice Executive Director Carl Frazier stopped by the 27 News studio to talk about the upcoming Peace Gala.
The Peace Gala is an annual fundraising event that will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9. Frazier said they had a special keynote speaker, Mayor/CEO of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS Christal Watson.
“The most exciting thing that’s happening is we have a Kansas City, Kansas CEO and mayor is going to be our speaker,” Frazier said. “She is dynamite, she is awesome.”
The event raised around $15,000 last year and Frazier said they were hoping to raise in the range of $20,000 in 2026. The money raised helps to support the Topeka Center for Peace and Justice with its efforts to host events for the youth like peace camp.
‘Love Your Zoo’ fundraising event coming Friday
“I retired almost 35 years in federal government, that was a job,” Frazier said. “But what I do now I look at as a ministry, helping people, helping youth and being connected in the community. When we do the Peace Gala, it’s not only an opportunity to fundraise but for celebration.”
Frazier emphasized this year was going to be a step up from the previous year. It will include professional decorations, a bigger venue, jazz music, auctions and more.
“We’re going to have activities on the outside, and we’re also going to have activities on the inside,” Frazier said. “We’re going to have good fellowship on the outside, but we’re also great time on the outside.”
Tickets are still available for the Peace Gala, and admission tickets begin at $100 and corporate sponsorships at $750. To find out more information about it, click here or to view the full interview, see the video above.
