MAYETTA (KSNT) – A Mayetta man has died from injuries he suffered in a crash in Jackson County last weekend.
The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) reports the crash occurred just after 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the intersection of U.S. 75 and 158th Road just south of Mayetta. The crash involved two vehicles: a 2003 Chevy S10 pickup truck and a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV.
Troopers said the driver of the Chevy was traveling west on 158th Road while the driver of the Jeep was heading north on U.S. 75 The driver of the Chevy reportedly failed to yield the right of way to the oncoming Jeep, causing the vehicles to collide. The impact caused the Jeep to roll. Both vehicles came to rest in the median area.
KHP officials said the driver of the Chevy, identified as Roy A. Hale, 96, of Mayetta, was injured in the crash and taken to a hospital for treatment. He later died from his injuries on Oct. 8.

The driver and a passenger in the Jeep, a 70-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man from Fairview, were uninjured. Everyone involved in the crash wore a seat belt.
