JUNCTION CITY (KSNT) – Two people are dead following a crash on I-70 in Junction City Wednesday.
Personnel with the Geary County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post that deputies were at the scene of a major crash just before 4:40 p.m. on Oct. 14 on I-70 in the westbound lanes near exit 296. Deputies encouraged drivers to exit the highway at the 299 off-ramp into Grandview Plaza or the 298 off-ramp as all westbound drivers were being brought off the highway.
Staff with the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) later issued a report of the crash, stating that it occurred just after 4:15 p.m. on Oct. 14 on I-70 westbound just east of the Washington Street exit to Junction City. The crash involved two vehicles: a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck and a 2019 Cadillac XT5 SUV.

KHP staff report that deputies with the Geary County Sheriff’s Office were in pursuit of the driver of the Ford on westbound I-70 at mile-marker 296. The driver of the Ford reportedly exited and then re-entered I-70 westbound while traveling the wrong way. The driver of the Ford then crashed head-on into the oncoming Cadillac in the interchange area.
Seth A Moreland, 41, of Caney, who was driving the Ford, died as a result of the crash, according to the KHP. The driver of the Cadillac, Diane M. Lister, 62, of Chapman, also died due to the crash.
KHP personnel said Moreland did not have his seat belt on at the time of the crash. Lister was wearing a seat belt, according to state troopers.
