TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training (KSCPOST) has revoked the law enforcement certification of a former Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy after determining he made false statements during an investigation into a 2024 officer-involved shooting.
The commission issued a summary order of revocation on Sept. 24. The deputy served with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office from August 2023 to January 2025, according to KSCPOST records.

The investigation stemmed from an incident in December of 2024 during which the deputy discharged his firearm while on duty at an apartment complex. Following the incident, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office asked the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office to launch an investigation.
According to the revocation order, the deputy told investigators he was conducting a routine check of the apartment complex and looking for an individual with whom he had previous drug-related contact. Investigators later determined the deputy had an ongoing sexual relationship with a woman who lived there and obtained text messages indicating he was on his way to visit her. The woman told investigators she expected the two would have sex after he arrived.
Investigators also interviewed the person the deputy claimed he was looking for, who said he believed the deputy was “screwing my neighbor” because he visited the complex so frequently. The property’s owner told investigators he had not requested additional patrols and found it unusual that law enforcement would be checking the property without a call for service.
KSCPOST officials revoked the deputy’s certification after determining he engaged in unprofessional conduct by intentionally making a false statement during the officer-involved shooting investigation. According to the order, the statement was not made “in furtherance of a legitimate law enforcement purpose.” The summary order is subject to a hearing request. The commission also ordered the deputy to surrender any credentials or other evidence of his Kansas law enforcement certification.
