KANSAS CITY, Mo (KSNT) – Kansas basketball is adding talent, building expectations and drawing plenty of attention across the college basketball world.
The Jayhawks made another major move on Monday, Oct. 19, adding former Purdue standout Trey Kaufman-Renn to an already talented roster. The move has sparked plenty of conversation among college basketball fans, with some labeling Kansas the villains of the sport as the program continues to add experienced talent. But head coach Bill Self sees it differently.
Speaking Tuesday, Oct 20 at Big 12 Media Days in Kansas City, Self was asked whether he considers himself a disruptor in the ever-changing college basketball landscape. His response centered on one idea: Kansas is adapting to the rules and opportunities available to it.
“Disruptor? If we don’t play with them, we’re gonna play against them. All I want to do, within the guidelines of what’s been set: how do we get our best team together? That’s it,” Self said. There’s no disruption.”
Kaufman-Renn arrives in Lawrence after a standout career at Purdue. The forward averaged 14.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game last season and brings significant experience to a Kansas team with Big 12 title aspirations.
Kaufman-Renn joins returning Jayhawks Tre White and Melvin Council Jr., who are also back after receiving additional eligibility through separate court proceedings.

Kansas finished last season 24-11 overall and 12-6 in Big 12 play, tying for third in the conference standings. With additional talent now in the fold, the Jayhawks have their sights set on competing for a conference championship.
“When we break each huddle, we say Big 12 Champions,” said sophomore forward Kohl Rasario.
“In order to get there we have to take each game as it own.”
The Jayhawks will host Louisville on Oct. 21 for an exhibition contest at 6 p.m.
