WABAUNSEE COUNTY (KSNT) – Law enforcement is asking for help from the public in locating the individuals who “deliberately sabotaged” equipment at a work site in Wabaunsee County last month.
Wabaunsee County Sheriff Eric Kirsch said in a social media post that he is offering a $1,500 reward for information that leads to the prosecution of the individual or individuals who reportedly damaged two excavators over the Labor Day weekend in early September. Kirsch said the excavators belong to Wabaunsee County Road & Bridge and are located at a work site on Old K-10 Road.
Kirsch said the hydraulic lines were cut on one excavator while two gallons of water were poured into the hydraulic system of another. He said this caused between $40,000 and $100,000 in damage to the equipment.
“This wasn’t harmless mischief. This was deliberate destruction of equipment purchased with public funds, maintained by hardworking county employees, and used to keep our roads safe…for you.”
