TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka’s local ice hockey team is sticking around the Capital City for several years to come thanks to a lease extension approved Thursday.
Shawnee County Commissioners signed off on a new agreement between Pro Hockey Topeka and the Stormont Vail Events Center on Oct. 22. Commissioners approved the lease extension for the team unanimously, extending the team’s agreement through June 30, 2031.
Don Lewis, owner of Pro Hockey Topeka, appeared alongside numerous other players on the team to celebrate the extension.
“This organization and this team is fully invested into this community and it is exciting to watch,” Kasey Hanney, general manager of Stormont Vail Events Center said. “And me as a hockey fan, I’m excited to see this sport grow in Kansas.”
The Topeka Scarecrows team kicked off its first season in 2025, competing against other teams in the Federal Prospects Hockey League. You can learn more about the team by heading to its website.
