TOPKEA (KSNT) – Officials with the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) announced a new partnership with a mental health nonprofit Thursday.
On Oct. 22, the DCF announced Topeka-based HealthSource Integrated Solutions will be assisting in taking care of Kansas youth. They will be helping with the Family Mobile Crisis Helpline, which is already implemented in Kansas, and that has been available since 2021.
The Family Mobile Crisis Helpline is available to all Kansans under the age of 21 and allows for more ways of taking care of mental health issues that do not involve hospitalization or other restrictive measures. The focus of the program is to center mental healthcare on community solutions for Kansas youth, allowing them to get quick support. It will provide a behavioral health crisis helpline, screening and mobile response 24/7, and connections to community services wherever a crisis may arise.
“When a child or youth is experiencing an emotional or behavioral health crisis, families need support they can reach quickly. Through mobile crisis response services, we can help families access timely support, reducing the need for more restrictive interventions and connecting them to care in their own communities,” said DCF Secretary Laura Howard. “We look forward to partnering with HealthSource Integrated Solutions to provide access to these critical services and improve outcomes for children and families across Kansas.”
HealthSource Integrated Solutions took the contract after the DCF began a request for new partners in 2025. Beginning in May this year, the contract starts with a three-year period and allows renewals of one year. There may be up to two renewals. In addition, a transition period is underway as the last partner, Carelon Behavioral Health, is on the way out. HealthSource Integrated Solutions is expected to take responsibility for mobile crisis response by Nov. 1, 2026.
The Family Mobile Crisis helpline is available by calling 1-833-441-2240. You can learn more about the helpline by clicking here.
