TOPEKA (KSNT) – Interim President of Visit Topeka, Mike Bell, stopped by the 27 News studio Tuesday morning to chat about what his organization is all about.
Bell said that Visit Topeka staff are focused on showing off the best that the Capital City has to offer.
“Well, to put it very simply, what we try to do is just invite people to come to our town and enjoy all the things that our residents do,” Bell said. “So, that would be our attractions, our parks and then our sporting venues. So, just coming in and trying to visit Topeka.”
Bell said Topeka has some big draws for both locals and others to enjoy such as the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center, the Topeka Zoo & Conservation Center, the Combat Air Museum and more.

“One of the things that we fight in Topeka is probably our proximity to Kansas City and other major metro areas, but that’s where we’ve been able to punch above our weight and looking at sporting venues like the Washburn indoor track and field facility,” Bell said. “We’re working currently on some national championships there for indoor track and field that would bring athletes from all across the nation to Topeka.”
Looking ahead, Bell said the gradual reopening of the Polk-Quincy Viaduct should have a positive impact on the city. He also said that continued improvements on Hotel Topeka will help provide visitors with a better experience when they come to the Capital City.
