TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka firefighters and hazmat personnel responded to a diesel fuel spill situation Tuesday.
City of Topeka spokeswoman Kim Qualls said in a press release that personnel with the Topeka Fire Department (TFD) responded to reports of diesel fuel leaking from a fueling facility just before 10:55 a.m. on Oct. 27 at 4201 SW Burlingame Rd. in Topeka. Fire crews arriving at the scene spotted diesel fuel leaking from the facility into a nearby drainage ditch.
TFD personnel and hazardous materials crews built a dam using nearby soil to contain the spill and stop it from spreading further. Qualls said the property owner is responsible for coordinating cleanup efforts, including removal of all contaminated soil.
