TOPEKA (KSNT) – Kansas law enforcement agencies are being invited to apply for a grant program to help them counter threats posed by drones.
Personnel with the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) said in a press release that law enforcement agencies across the state are running out of time to apply to a grant program that can help them combat possible threats posed by drones. The final day to apply is Wednesday, Nov. 4.
KHP staff said that over $3.7 million funds are available to support capabilities to monitor, track, identify and otherwise mitigate unlawful drone activities. Activities that are permitted under this grant program include planning, organization, equipment, training and exercises. Applicants must show a connection to terrorism prevention, protection, preparedness or response with their projects.

Priorities for the grant program including protecting crowded venues, public spaces and critical infrastructure, according to the KHP. Projects that support large-scale federally designated security events during 2027-2029 along with those that provide mobile capabilities to counter threatening drones will receive higher priority with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The grant program is open to Kansas state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies. You can learn more about the program by clicking here or by heading to FEMA’s website.
