TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka’s YMCA just finished a major upgrade for its fitness equipment this week.
Staff at the YMCA, which is located at 3635 SW Chelsea Dr., decided to improve their location with the addition of new equipment. Much of the old equipment was between 10 and 15 years old.
Daniel McCoy, branch director at the YMCA in Topeka, told 27 News that the ultimate goal is to serve one out of three people in the Capital City. She said the YMCA building is just the beginning of that goal.

“We’re in a capital campaign of $5 million,” McCoy said. “We’re at $1.4 [million]. And so, as that money comes in, we will make changes to this building and then look at something bigger for Topeka, because to serve one out of three will need a much bigger building.”
As of Thursday, all of the equipment is built and ready for YMCA patrons to use.
