TOPEKA (KSNT) – Shawn Wesner with Kay McFarland Charitable Trust stopped by the 27 News studio to talk about an upcoming event spotlighting local artists.
Art in the Garden is a celebration of new permanent artwork, local creativity and cultural connections. It will be held at the Kay McFarland Japanese Garden in the Topeka Zoo.
“This is an opportunity to really showcase local artists, their talents, and some pieces of their works,” Wesner said. “We’re going to be highlighting artists in particular whose work is going to hang in the gallery of the center at the gardens itself.”
Twenty different local artists will have the opportunity to display and sell their art to the public. Wesner emphasized that there will be a variety of pieces on display.
“It is everything you can think of, so anything that individuals consider art, and that’s a very broad range, it will be displayed,” Wesner said. “So, I think it’s just a great opportunity. You don’t have to be necessarily into impressionist or artistic. There’s going to be something for everyone there.”
Although the event takes place on the usually busy Election Day, Wesner explained it was a way for people to hangout and relax.
“It can be stressful, but we have a really great way to make it not stressful because if you come to the gardens and you have your sticker on that says, I voted, you were going to get one free drink,” Wesner said. “I think that when you come and if you haven’t been there before, I think you’ll be really surprised at what a serene, lovely, calming, natural environment it is.”
