TOPEKA (KSNT) – Flags across Kansas will remain at the half-staff position for an extended period of time.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly initially ordered that flags across the state would be lowered to half-staff on Monday, Nov. 2 to honor the life of farm workers’ rights advocate Dolores Huerta. However, Kelly issued an extension of the half-staff honors following the recent death of Representative Dan Goddard (R).
Kelly’s new order states that flags will stay at half-staff after sundown on Nov. 2 until the day of internment for Goddard. The day of internment has yet to be announced.
“Representative Goddard was a true public servant, serving 24 years in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot, then working to support economic development at closed military bases, and eventually serving in both the Kansas Senate and the Kansas House,” Kelly said. “My thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.”

Goddard was elected to the Kansas House in 2023, representing parts of Neosho and Labette counties in southeast Kansas.
