TOPEKA (KSNT) – Federal prosecutors have charged a Kansas postal worker with delaying and unlawfully withholding mail, alleging she stole thousands of pieces of mail, including GOP political mailers.
Danielle Thomas with the Department of Justice (DOJ) said in a press release that a federal grand jury in Wichita indicted a 59-year-old Baxter Springs resident Nov. 3 with one count of unlawful secretion, destruction and delay of mail. Prosecutors accuse the postal worker of stealing more than 4,400 pieces of mail, including nearly 400 political mailers tied to Republican candidates and Republican Party-affiliated political action committees.
Beginning in October this year, prosecutors said the postal worker began stealing mail intended to be delivered to people in and around Pittsburg. She allegedly placed the mail in her garage. Investigators said they found no mailers tied to other political parties at her residence.
The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General is investigating the case.
