TOPEKA (KSNT) – No. 2 Washburn men’s basketball will hit the court this weekend for the first time this season.
The Ichabods will open up their season in the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic in Lakeland, Fla.
Washburn will take on No. 11 Point Loma on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. CST, and then on Sunday, the ‘Bods will take on No. 4 West Liberty at the same time.
“We’ll find out a lot about ourselves,” Washburn men’s basketball head coach Brett Ballard told 27 Sports. “I think it’s appropriate that we don’t overreact. If we win, that’d be great. We’ll build some confidence off of that. You know, if you take one on the chin, you have to react appropriately to that, and we’ll learn from it. But it’s going to be a good experience for us.”
The Ichabods enter the 2026-27 season as the defending MIAA regular-season and tournament champion after finishing 31-2 last season. Washburn is picked as the favorite in the MIAA’s preseason media and coaches’ poll.
