TOPEKA (KSNT) - Numerous prominent Topeka figures gathered at Townsite Towers Thursday to take a trip down memory lane and share their hopes for the future of the Capital City.
Staff with the Greater Topeka Partnership brought local elected officials and community leaders together on Nov. 3 for the Shawnee County and Topeka state of the community. Attendees discussed topics like housing and infrastructure, the success of the Stormont Vail Events Center and plans for Gage Park.
Topeka Mayor Spencer Duncan told 27 News he hopes people can see the work that goes on for city and county workers.
“I just hope their takeaway is that there’s a lot of moving parts that are involved with managing the county and the city, and we can’t do it alone,” Duncan said. ”It takes the people in this room and the people outside this room to understand they have a part to play and to help us do the role of moving the city forward. And so, it’s just reminding them, we need you, and we’re glad that we’re partners with you.”

“They’re renovating the hotel right now,” Riphahn said. “And I think that will help attract conventions to that area. And also, the Maner Conference Center, where right now, we’ve just hired an architectural firm that they’re going to be giving us some drawings of what they can do with the Maner Conference Center.”
“Because we need to get back in there in that convention business at a larger scale than we were currently at,” Riphahn continued.
City of Topeka officials said they have a lot in store for the Capital City in the future.
