OVERLAND PARK (KSNT) – The winner of a Mega Millions lottery ticket valued at $1 million has stepped forward to claim the prize.

Cory Thone with the Kansas Lottery says the ticket, originally sold on April 9, was claimed Friday, May 3. The winner is choosing to remain anonymous. The winning numbers were 34-43-51-52-69 with a “Mega Ball” of 25.

While the ticket’s value is listed as $1 million, the winner received only $710,000 due to the 5% state tax and 24% federal tax on the money. The ticket was sold at a QuikTrip located at 7621 West 159th Street in the Overland Park area which received a $1,000 selling bonus.

The prize was initially listed as being worth just over $1 million. Thone says this was a reporting error that combined two Mega Millions wins on April 9.

The current Mega Millions jackpot sits at a little more than $306 million with a cash option of around $140 million. The next drawing is at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7. You can learn more about the Mega Millions lottery by clicking here.

Another $1 million prize through the Powerball is still listed as unclaimed in Kansas. The winning ticket for this was drawn on Sept. 27, 2023 in south-central Kansas. The winner has one year to claim the cash before the money goes back to the Kansas Lottery.
