TOPEKA (KSNT) – A Midwestern supermarket chain is offering some shoppers a special discount later this week.

Dillons Food Stores announced in a press release that customers who are 55-years-old or older can take advantage of a 5% discount on in-store purchases on Wednesday, May 8. Shoppers need only ask their cashier to apply the discount at checkout.

“At Dillons, we are committed to providing fresh, affordable food and are always looking for ways to help our customers to stretch their budgets,” said Sheila Regehr, corporate affairs manager for Dillons. “Whether it’s added fuel points on Fridays, savings with a digital coupon, or scoring a great markdown price, everyone loves a great deal. That’s why we’re excited to extend this one-day Senior Day discount once again on Wednesday, May 8.”

The one-day discount is meant to help older adults save money on pantry staples, produce, household essentials and other items. Dillons Food Stores offered the same discount offer in April earlier this year. There are exclusions to some purchases such as those involving:

  • Alcohol
  • Tobacco products
  • Fuel
  • Money orders
  • Taxes
  • Postage stamps
  • Gift cards/certificates
  • Lottery
  • Promotional tickets
  • CRV
  • Prescriptions
  • Guest or customer service/fees.
