TOPEKA (KSNT) – Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is ordering flags across the state to fly at half-staff on Thursday later this week.

Kelly made the announcement on Monday, May 6 that flags will fly at half-staff from sunup to sundown on Thursday, May 9. This is to honor the life and service of former Kansas Supreme Court Justice Fred Six who died in April.

“Justice Six served our state honorably during his tenure on the Kansas Supreme Court,” Kelly said. “On behalf of the State of Kansas, I thank him for his dedication, expertise, and fairness. My deepest condolences go out to his loved ones.”

Six was first appointed to the Kansas Supreme Court in 1988 by then-Governor Mike Hayden. He served in this capacity until he retired in 2003.
