KANSAS (KSNT) – The Kansas Hospital Association (KHA) released its annual Health Care Workforce Report, the report found employee turnover is still at record-high levels.

Over 100 hospitals participated in the survey, the largest number of participants in 10 years. According to the report, vacancy rates were the highest for sonographer/ultrasound technologists, nursing assistants and radiology technologists.

The employee turnover rate in Kansas averaged 19 percent. Occupations like housekeepers, dietary aides and nursing assistants all had turnover rates over 30%.

“Enrollment into Kansas K-12 and post-secondary schools has continued to decline,” a press release from the KHA said. “This leads to fewer students seeking health care credentials, licenses, and degrees, and in turn, working in health care in Kansas.”

In northeast Kansas, the positions with the highest turnovers were sterile processing technicians and occupational therapy assistants with 36% turnover, environmental services workers with 29% turnover and nursing assistants with 28% turnover.

The vacancy rate for northeast Kansas was 11% and the turnover rate was 19%, according to the report.
