TOPEKA (KSNT) – A newly released report shows Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is ranked as one of the most popular governors in the nation.

Business intelligence company Morning Consult says Kelly is in the top ten list for most popular governors across the U.S. following the release of a new report in April 2024. She takes a spot in the top ten in overall rankings with a 62% approval rating against 30% who disapprove of her performance. Governors Ned Lamont and Brian Kemp tied with Kelly at a 62% approval rating.

Kelly is the 48th governor of the state of Kansas. She was first elected to the position in 2018 and won a second term in 2022. Her main objectives in the position include the economy, child care, the foster care system, abortion rights and healthcare.

Kelly has received criticism in the past from lawmakers for her opposition to and veto attempts on a bill banning transgender athletes in Kansas and the “Parents Bill of Rights” in 2023. During the 2022 race for governor Kelly’s GOP opponent, then-Attorney General Derek Schmidt, attacked her over Kelly’s decisions to close Kansas schools during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
