On Thursday, country music legend Lee Greenwood joined President Donald Trump in Des Moines, Iowa to kick off America’s 250th birthday celebration. Greenwood told Newsmax on Saturday that the experience of being on stage with the president was “amazing.”
“I can’t tell you how much more people recognize me. My career has been 40 years, and it feels like the beginning of my career. And when I walk into a room or I walked onto the stage in Iowa and they made a simple announcement, people went nuts. They’re taking pictures and like, I’m something more important than I am — and I’m not. But it was so cool to be able to sing and turn to my left and here’s the president of the United States walking out, as he always does,” Greenwood said during an appearance on “Wake Up America Weekend.”
Greenwood noted that Trump will always allow him to finish a song and that mutual respect has cultivated their friendship. “And he’s very respectful in that regard. We became very good friends, and I appreciate him and I pray for him. And I’m so excited to do these events again and again and again for the next year, as we build up to 250 years for the anniversary of the United States of America,” he added.
