GENIUS Act Passes Senate, But Bureaucracy Could Muzzle Crypto

On June 17, the U.S. Senate voted to approve a regulatory regime for stablecoins.

This vote represents one of the most significant milestones for cryptocurrency since the pseudonymous author Satoshi Nakamoto penned his white paper announcing the creation of a new digital private currency called “bitcoin” 16 years ago.

By a vote of 68-30, the Senate passed the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US Stablecoins Act (GENIUS Act). It will become law when the House passes this bill — or passes a similar bill with differences ironed out in a House-Senate conference committee — and President Trump signs the legislation.
