Congress Stops Cruz Proposal for Airport Security Escorts

Congress will not be moving forward with a proposal that would allow lawmakers and judges facing credible threats to get special security escorts at airports, according to The Hill.

The legislation was originally proposed by Sen. Ted Cruz, R, Texas, but was left out of a Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill over objections from Rep. Bennie Thompson, D, Miss., the ranking Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee, according to The Hill.

Legislators and judges facing threats would get security escorts and special screenings at airports, similar to deputy secretaries, congressional leaders and mayors of large cities, according to The Hill.
