Elon Musk decided to try and repair his relationship with President Donald Trump after being urged to do so in a call last Friday from Vice President JD Vance and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, people familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.
Vance, who has positioned himself as both an attack dog and a problem solver in his role as vice president, had kept his involvement in the feud low key. Although he sided with Trump in the dispute, he refrained from criticizing Musk, which allowed him to be involved in the peacekeeping effort.
In the call from Vance and Wiles, the two urged the tech billionaire to put an end to his falling out with the president, which had burst into the open early this month in dramatic fashion.
